You only need the desire to move and be open to the journey.
Where to Get Started?
You may want to attend a local community class at your public library, adult education center, or other small group venue, to dip your toes in the water.
Paula Lane offers small group classes and 1:1 coaching. This is a good way to help those who are new to Ecstatic Dance and want to explore the fundamentals and whether it's for them. Paula is available for free phone consultations as well. See Connect for more information.
You can also explore Ecstatic Dance via self-practice before participating in an event or coaching if that works better. See Self-Practice Guide for more information.
What should I Wear & What should I Bring?
Dress comfortably in loose fitting clothing, preferably in layers so that you can adjust your body temperature accordingly.
You may want to bring a water, as well as a mat, towel, and journal to capture your insights.
What are the General Guidelines?
Most in-person Ecstatic Dance sessions will follow similar general guidelines as follows:
No talking or cell phones when it begins - to create a safe and sacred space for free expression.
Respect yourself and others - be mindful of your own boundaries and those of others.
Listen to the music and your body - let the music guide your movements and trust your body's natural rhythms.
Take care of yourself - drink water when you need to, and take breaks if you feel tired or overwhelmed.
